Metallica - "One" Released in 1988
I have liked listening to Metallica music for many years, but it wasn't until today 3/12/2022 that I realized the message their music sends to everyone. This is a very deep song which makes me think heavily about what is compassion and what isn't. Also I was not aware until today, that this song was actually based on a book and a movie titled "Johnny Got His Gun" by Dalton Trumbo. The more I listen, the more I learn.

ONE
WRITTEN BY HETFIELD/ULRICH
I can't remember anything
Can't tell if this is true or dream
Deep down inside I feel to scream
This terrible silence stops me
Now that the war is through with me
I'm waking up, I cannot see
That there's not much left of me
Nothing is real but pain now
Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please, God, wake me
Back in the womb it's much too real
In pumps life that I must feel
But can't look forward to reveal
Look to the time when I'll live
Fed through the tube that sticks in me
Just like a wartime novelty
Tied to machines that make me be
Cut this life off from me
Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please, God, wake me
Now the world is gone, I'm just one
Oh God, help me Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please, God, help me
Darkness
Imprisoning me
All that I see
Absolute horror
I cannot live
I cannot die
Trapped in myself
Body my holding cell
Landmine
Has taken my sight
Taken my speech
Taken my hearing
Taken my arms
Taken my legs
Taken my soul
Left me with life in hell

Today we have people who are suffering from medical conditions and from injuries from war and accidents that impact their lives and the lives of their families. In addition to people who suffer from cancer and the treatments of cancer which cause more problems physical, mental, spiritual and financial. How can we help them? We should listen to those who are suffering and then form a way to help them and to go the way that they want to go which can include the way they want to meet their maker. Those who don’t know about the situation try to force their views and beliefs upon those who are actually going through it and they are called Abelists.
What are your thoughts about this and how the song “One” brings it to the forefront?
